World Book Day: The Great Book Swap!
The Great Book Swap!
This World Book Day, Thursday 2nd March, we want to continue to provide as many reading experiences for our children as we can. We love reading here at Woodlands and we also recognise how important it is for young people to be exposed to literature from a wide range of genres.
So, on World Book Day we will be hosting ‘The Great Book Swap’.
We are inviting children to choose a book from their own book shelves at home that they are willing to swap in return for a new book.
Please help your child to wrap their book in paper: this could be wrapping paper, newspaper, brown paper… anything to disguise the cover of the book. They should then write some clues as to the content of the book on the wrapping paper or attach a label, e.g. This book is perfect for someone who likes mystery stories / People who like animals will love this book.
[If you are wanting a clear out and want to take the opportunity to donate more than one book then that would be welcomed but each child taking part will take home one book]
The books will then be put into a collection appropriate for the age of the child. The categories will be Nursery/Reception, Year 1/Year 2, Year 3/Year 4 and Year 5/Year 6. Please make sure your donated book is suitable for your child’s year group as they will be swapped within their category.
Whilst it should be recognised that these books will be second hand and not be ‘new’, donated books should be in good condition (no tears, rips or writing please).
Once a book is donated, your child will then be invited to choose a new book: the mystery is that they won’t know what they are getting until they unwrap it! Because of this, those taking part should be aware that they won’t know what book they are going to receive. Hopefully, they will be pleased with their new acquisition but they may also find that they can pass on this gift to someone close to them who it may be more suited to - what better thing to share than the joy of reading!
Those wishing to take part should bring a wrapped book to school on Thursday 2nd March.
We look forward to your support
