World Book Day 2022
Dear Parents & Carers
This year, World Book Day is on Thursday 3rd March.
As well as activities based in school on the day, we would like the children to create a character from one of their favourite books or stories using a wooden spoon. This would be an activity carried out at home either on their own (depending on their age & trustworthiness with a glue gun) or under the supervision of a parent, grandparent, uncle, auntie, family dog, etc. or even being instructed via WhatsApp by Great Uncle Endeavour in Rio de Janeiro…
We’re letting you know in plenty of time so you are able to think of something as imaginative as possible. There are so many characters to choose from: Nik & Norva (‘High Rise Mystery’), Penguin Small, Count Dracula, Stanley Yelnats (‘Holes’), Goldilocks, Harry Potter, Katniss Everdeen, Ahmet (‘The Boy at the Back of the Class’), Little Red Riding Hood, Samson (‘Samson’s Titanic Journey’), Matilda, Paddington, Hermione, The Twits, Sherlock Holmes, The Worst Witch, Alex Rider, Eeyore, The Big Bad Wolf, Toad (of Toad Hall), Winnie the Pooh, Gandalf, The Cat in the Hat, Sir Lancelot, 3 Billy Goats Gruff & the Troll– it’s up to you!
Feel free to attach any necessary accessories, e.g. wand, broom, marmalade sandwich, bow & arrow, magnifying glass, pot of ‘hunny’ (Pooh Bear is not the greatest of spellers), shield, spade, backpack, a large stripy red & white hat…
You can make it as simple or complicated as you want.
There will be a small prize for the most imaginative wooden spoon character in each class. Most importantly, the children will be able to see a huge array of characters from a range of books chosen & created by their classmates.
Please can the children bring their (spoon) character into school on the morning of Thursday 3rd March?
Have fun!
