Summer Newsletter 9 [Friday 16th June]
Dear Parents & Carers
Children from Y1, Y2, Y3 & Y4 took part in the annual Wally Cain dance festival on Wednesday held at The Atkinson in Southport. This year’s theme was ‘Stories of our past and visions of our future’. The 16 children decided to they would perform to the song ‘Children’ by Robert Miles. Using dance moves, they told the audience what they aspired to be when they are older. The dance was exceptional and all of their hard work definitely paid off. Not only were they fantastic dancers, they demonstrated excellent manners throughout the event, rehearsal & performance too. I’d like to thank Mrs Cooper & Miss Morgan for choreographing such a wonderful routine & ensuring the children performed to such a high level.
Our Y3&4 girls took part in a football tournament at Stanley High School yesterday. Woodlands entered 2 teams: Woodlands’ Whites & Woodlands’ Blues. The children had a wonderful time; both teams played with great enthusiasm & huge amounts of skill too. The ‘Blues’ were involved in lots of close games & the children gained valuable tournament experience; for quite a few of the players it was their first taste of competitive football. They represented Woodlands superbly & I’m sure will become even more accomplished footballers in the future – the determination & effort they put in was great to see. The ‘Whites’ went through the tournament undefeated & only lost in the final on penalties - always a cruel way to lose, especially as our goalie managed to save 2 penalties. The children should be very proud of themselves for the performances they put in – they were magnificent from start to finish! Thank you to Miss Dollery & Miss Pickford for their organisational abilities & tactical acumen.
Next week, our Y6 pupils are setting off on their last great adventure at Woodlands – their residential visit to PGL Boreatton Park in Shropshire. While we are there, they will be faced with all sorts of challenges: scaling the trapeze pole; tackling the giant swing; building a raft (that floats); launching themselves down the zip wire. It’s lovely way to start to bring our Y6 pupil’s time at Woodlands to a close: the beginning of the end… We know the pupils we are taking to PGL will have a great time & I’m sure they will behave brilliantly too.
Here’s this week’s ‘nudges’ to help you find out about your children’s learning:

We had 4 classes who had no late marks this week: Red Class, 3/4M, 4T & 5/6P. We had 34 late marks across the whole school. 28 late marks were ‘before the register closed’ (that’s before 9.20am) & 6 late marks ‘after the register has closed’, that’s after 9.20am.
Next Tuesday, 20th June, the children (nursery [N2s] to Y6) will be having their class photographs taken. Reception (Red & Blue classes) parents are asked to send their children in their uniform that day, NOT their PE kit.
I hope you have a tremendous weekend.
