Dear Parents & Carers

The children had a lovely day today. The weather wasn’t too good, so we ended up having our Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Picnic indoors, which was a shame. Still, the children all enjoyed themselves despite the damp conditions outside. I’d like to thank Holly the Chef & her wonderful team in the kitchen for providing a fabulous packed lunch (in a Union Flag lunch box no less). The Queenie cupcakes & cookies went down a storm! Mr Grant was happy to be able to use his dressing up skills once again; he came in character as King Henry VIII (think of the Holbein painting & you’ll be close). He spent the day muttering darkly to himself, “Divorced, beheaded, died; divorced, beheaded, survived… what kind of monster am I?” Each child has also been given a commemorative book: “Queen Elizabeth: A Platinum Jubilee Collection” which states in its introduction:

“You are receiving this book to commemorate this once-in-a-lifetime,
memorable moment. It will help you understand the amazing life
and times of our Queen and the magic of the unique, unshakable
bond she shares with the people she serves. You'll discover the
rich history of the UK and Commonwealth and meet a few of
the incredible achievers who have helped to make the 70 years
of The Queen's reign so eventful and extraordinary.”

FOWSA’s Dare to be Different fundraiser proved to be a great success too: crazy hair dos, wild socks & stylishly painted nails, to name a few of the ‘dares’ that children took on. Thanks again to the fabulous FOWSA team – the work they do for the school is greatly appreciated &, in these times of reduced funding, vital. We are so grateful that we have such a dedicated team of volunteers willing to give of their time & support the school with such enthusiasm.

This week’s ‘nudges’ to help you start conversations about your children’s learning are as follows…

This week, our whole school attendance is 93.5%, which is a drop compared to previous weeks. There was not a single class who reached our 97% target.

Punctuality has dropped this week too. We had only had 2 classes who had no late marks this week: Yellow Class & 3/4M. We’ve had 29 late marks across the whole school. 22 late marks ‘before the register closed’ – that’s before 9.20am & 7 late marks ‘after the register has closed’, that’s after 9.20am.

Let’s hope, that once we return after the half term break, we will be able to improve both our attendance & punctuality figures.

Enjoy half term. Hopefully, the weather will be kind whether you are staying at home or are lucky enough to get away for a wee while.

Don’t forget, school is not open for pupils tomorrow (Friday 27th May) & will reopen on Tuesday 7th June.
