Summer Newsletter 6 [Friday 26th May]

Dear Parents & Carers

1 half term to go, 5 half terms completed… that’s 5/6 or 0.8333 or 83.3% of the academic year.

Today, we’ve said goodbye to a much-respected member of Woodlands staff. Mrs Prescott has been a lunchtime welfare assistant (dinner lady) for the past 3 years. She had such a calm & caring attitude at all times. She always showed infinite patience when dealing with the children (moving reception children around school can be a wee bit like herding cats!). Thank you Mrs Prescott – you will be missed by the children & staff of Woodlands - good luck in your next adventure.

I thought I’d share with you some of the key events happening at school during the final half term this year:

Yesterday, we had over 30 pupils from Y3 to Y6 representing Woodlands in a cross-country event at Stanley High School. There were 19 schools taking part & between 70 – 100 children in each year group race. All of our children were magnificent – straining every sinew running as hard as they could – they had a great time too! We are proud of everyone for taking part & giving of their best. A few specific mentions: our Y3 girls & Y4 girls both came second in their team events; our Y5 girls won their team event. Special congratulations to Brooke Kirwan in Y3 who raced to first place in the Y3 event – well done Brooke you are a star! I’d like to thank Miss Dollery for ensuring so many children took part – also our parents & carers for taxiing their children to & from the event.

This week, our whole school attendance is 91.1%. We had no classes with 100% attendance this week & 0 classes reaching or exceeding our 97% target ?

We had 4 classes who had no late marks this week: Purple Class, 3/4M, 5D & 5/6P. We had 20 late marks across the whole school. 20 late marks were ‘before the register closed’ (that’s before 9.20am) & 0 late marks ‘after the register has closed’, that’s after 9.20am.

This year Sefton will be hosting a Pride event on Sunday 16 July; the idea of the event is to celebrate inclusivity and celebrate difference. I have been asked to share the following survey with you:

https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/XFTYMVL

The more responses the organisers get on the survey the more informed the team can be making the final adjustments to the event.

I hope you have a tremendous half term; don’t forget school begins for the children at the usual time on Tuesday 6 June.
