Summer Newsletter 5 [Friday 19th May]

Dear Parents & Carers

I know some of you will be attending FOWSA’s Family Bingo tonight - I’m sure you’ll have a great time. I just want to take the opportunity to say thank you to this gallant band of parents that make such a difference to Woodlands. I’m sure you are all aware of how tight funding is at the moment for schools – the money raised by FOWSA helps us fund projects we otherwise would struggle to afford. I love the range of activities they think up – currently, our classes are engaged in a coin war. The winning classes are allowed to keep half of the money raised to spend as they wish! Previous winners have treated themselves to a McDonalds, a massive purple octopus reading cushion thingy & one class even decide to sponsor a red panda & a warthog at Chester Zoo! The people of FOWSA work so hard to ensure each of their events are successful in raising money but as importantly they’re good fun for families to attend. Their dedication & hard work is truly appreciated by everyone at Woodlands. Reminder: our summer fair is on Saturday 1st July – please keep an eye out for upcoming appeals to give FOWSA a helping hand at this important event in the school calendar.

Two pieces of sporting news from this week. Our Y5&6 girls’ football team just missed out on the knockout stages of a tournament at Stanley High School – they played brilliantly throughout & represented the school wonderfully well. The same can be said about our 3&4 footgolf team: they had a fabulous, again at Stanley High, taking 4th spot in a 9-team competition. Mr Grant, footgolf supremo at Woodlands, said, “I am thrilled with how the children performed in their first footgolf competition – it was enthralling to watch from the first kick to the final ‘putt’ – surely, it can’t be too long before footgolf is included in the Olympic Games...”

This week’s ‘nudges’ to help you find out about your children’s learning are as follows…

This week, our whole school attendance is 96.2%. We had no classes with 100% attendance this week & 6 classes reaching or exceeding our 97% target: Red Class (99.5%), Green Class (98.3%), Yellow Class (97.3%), 3/4M (97.0%), 4T (97.8%) & 5D (98.4%).

We had no classes who had no late marks this week ? We had 43 late marks across the whole school which a disappointing increase compared to last week. 34 late marks were ‘before the register closed’ (that’s before 9.20am) & 9 late marks ‘after the register has closed’, that’s after 9.20am.

I hope you have a fabulous weekend.
