Summer Newsletter 5 [Friday 17th April]

Dear Parents & Carers

All the staff at Woodlands would like to say well done to our Y6 children for tackling the KS2 SATs head on. No fuss. No drama. Just sticking at it & making sure they try their very best each day. That’s all we can ask. We do know that there is so much more to our Y6 pupils than a SATs score. In the letter we sent home with them today, we make this very point: “I wanted to remind you that while we want you to do as well as you can in the SATs, they are not the only way you are judged as a person; there is so much more to you than reading, spelling, grammar & maths. If you don’t have a child in Y6, the letter is available on the Latest News section of the school website (Dear Y6 – THANK YOU!).

Here’s this week’s ‘nudges’…

Nursery

{Communication & Language: ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ Eric Carle}

Reception [Red & Blue]

Can you explain the stages in the lifecycle of a butterfly?

{Understanding the World}

Y1&2 [Green, Yellow & Purple]

Can you name a solid, liquid or gas?

{Science topic: ‘Materials & Matters’}

Y3&4 [3A, 3/4M & 4G]

{English topic: ‘Newspaper Reports?’}

This week, our whole school attendance is 96.5% - just below our 97% target. We had 1 class with 100% attendance: congratulations to 5/6P. We have 5 classes equalling or bettering 97%: Red Class (97.7%), Yellow Class (97.0%), 3/4M (97.3%), 5D (97.5%) & 6R (99.7%).

We only had 1 class who had no late marks this week: 5/6P. We had 50 late marks across the whole school. All 47 late mark were ‘before the register closed’ – that’s before 9.20am & 3 late marks ‘after the register has closed’, that’s after 9.20am.

I have also attached the spring newsletter from Imagine Formby – with details of a couple of upcoming events in ‘The Village’: Yarn Bombing (5th June) & Formby Live Music Festival (15th & 16th June). The newsletter also covers Formby’s Artistic Alley, Formby’s Heritage Centre & the newly formed Formby Ladies Business Club. Also, & I can’t believe I’m typing this, there is an interesting article on bollards…

I hope you all have a good weekend.
