Summer Newsletter 2 [Friday 28th April]

Dear Parents & Carers

I would like to share a letter I received from one of our Y4 pupils:

Dear Mr Williams

I would, along with my friends Dorothy & Nancy, like to continue our sales of loom band bracelets.

The money raised will go to a great charity (Clatterbridge Cancer Centre). We have raised £400 so far & we are eager to make it £500. I would like to do something for Ward 5 transplant team as they looked after & became my Dad’s friends when no friends or family could see him. Dad told me how great they were. Therefore, we would love to do something good for them.

We would be sensible & mindful making sure there are no loom bands all over school

Thank you for reading my letter,

from

Tabitha

Tabitha & her friends will be selling their loom band creations to KS2 children (Y3-Y6) on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday next week at break time. Loom band bracelets will cost £1, rings 50p & letters 50p too. The children in KS2 will be able to wear the loom bands in class during the week (Wednesday to Friday) but must take them off when they go out for play, have PE, etc.

Staff at Woodlands feel we should support Tabitha in raising as much money as we can for such a deserving cause. Therefore, we will be holding a non-uniform day for the whole school (nursery to Y6) next Friday 5th May. We are asking for donations of £1 per child or £2 per child. As this is such a special cause for one of our pupils please feel free to be even more generous with your donations. I have already spoken to our Y5&6 children saying that it would be really wonderful if they brought their own money in to donate (not just getting money from their parents/carers); giving one or 2 pounds (maybe even a fiver) of their own savings would make their contribution even more special. All money raised will go towards Clatterbridge Cancer Centre & Ward 5 transplant team.

Next Thursday we will be looking ahead to King Charles III’s coronation. Mrs Coleman will be leading a whole school assembly, & the children will having a picnic (outside, weather permitting) provided by Holly if they usually stay for school lunch. Feel free to jazz up your children’s lunch boxes with patriotic colours too!

Here are the ‘nudges’ to help you find out about your child’s learning this week:

We had had 2 classes who had no late marks this week: 3/4M & 5/6P. We had 33 late marks across the whole school. 27 late marks were ‘before the register closed’ (that’s before 9.20am) & 6 late marks ‘after the register has closed’, that’s after 9.20am.

I am pleased to be able to tell you that we have a new school nurse - Amanda Trickett. She is hoping to offer drop-in sessions for Woodlands’ families each month. The first of these is due to be held after school on 10th May. If you wish to see Mandy, please simply come to the school office at the end of the day – the session will run from 3.30pm to 4.00pm.

Please remember, due to the implications of ongoing industrial action, various activities of the school are being changed and amended, including some classes being closed. As things stand, Woodlands will only be open to children in the following classes on Tuesday 2nd May:

  • 3G
  • 4T

All other classes in school will be closed to children on that day, including our nursery class. I will contact you if this situation changes.  School will be fully open again to all pupils on Wednesday 3rd May.

I hope you have a pleasant weekend. Please remember to support Tabitha in her fundraising quest next week.
