Summer Newsletter 12
Dear Parents & Carers
I’ve got a few more farewells to say today. Mrs Denton, one of our lunchtime supervisors, is also moving on next Tuesday – she will be greatly missed by staff & children alike – kind, caring & with a great sense of humour too! Mrs Falconer, one of the teachers in our nursery class, is leaving us today – I’d like to thank her for all her hard work & dedication to the children in her care – she has helped to ensure they’ve had a great start to their time in Woodlands. We will miss her. Mrs Smith (TA) is leaving us at the end of term; we will miss her calmness & kindness - she has helped so many children across KS2 with their learning.
Thank you to everyone who came to our reception & KS1 sports days; the children had a wonderful time & will have been grateful for your support. Our stay & make craft session for nursery was a great success too – thank you to everyone who was able to come along.
I wanted to remind you of a change to our uniform policy from September 2022. This is the text of the ParentMail I sent in April outlining the changes:
I would like to give advance notice of a change in uniform policy which will come into force next academic year.
As from September 2022, children will no longer be allowed to wear trainers to school. Instead, black school shoes will be required for all pupils from reception to Y6.
Unfortunately, too many styles & colours available in training shoes mean that our uniform policy is being breached on a regular basis.
I wanted to give families sufficient notice in case you are buying new footwear in the coming months.
Shoes should be made from leather, faux-leather or vegan leather.
Trainers will need to be kept in school for when the children run the Woodlands Mile (all children) & play on the school field at lunchtime (KS2 Y3-Y6).
[After feedback from parents, we will allow children in the juniors to change into their trainers for lunchtime, even if they are not on the field that day.]
We will obviously be keeping an eye on the weather next week; please make sure your children have the following with them:
- sun cream (please apply it before they come to school too)
- a hat
- a water bottle (the children can refill this in school)
This week, our whole school attendance is 95.8% - a step close to the 97% mark that we’re constantly aiming for. We have 5 classes which bettered 97%: Purple Class (97.3%), Yellow Class (97.9%), 5D (97.3%), 5/6P (97.2%) & 6R (99.1%).
We’ve had 25 late marks across the whole school. 23 late marks ‘before the register closed’ – that’s before 9.20am & 2 late marks ‘after the register has closed’, that’s after 9.20am.
On Monday (18th July), FOWSA will be holding a pre-loved uniform sale on the junior playground from 2.30pm; items being sold at a suggested donation of £1 – or whatever you feel is appropriate…
Don’t forget that term ends on Tuesday 19th July at 2pm (Y6 pupils will leave school at 1.30pm).
Enjoy the weekend – stay cool!

Last word
Did you hear about the fire that broke out at the campsite?
It was in tents…
Thank you Mr T
