Summer Newsletter 12 [Friday 14th July]
Dear Parents & Carers
As we’re nearly at the end of the year, I’ve got couple of ‘goodbyes’ & a couple of ‘good lucks’ to deliver. I’d like to thank Mrs Hayes for being a wonderful lunchtime assistant – she has been so adaptable, not knowing which class she’d be supporting next, & always being so kind & caring – she will be missed. Next, I’d like to say goodbye (for now) & thank you to Miss Taylor who has been teaching at Woodlands for the best part of 2 years; she’s done a grand job in both Y6 & Y4. We will miss Miss Taylor too & wish her all the best for the birth of her child – we can’t wait for her to come & visit with the little one. We also have 2 members of staff going on maternity leave: Mrs Chiltern (nursery) & Miss Morgan (Green Class). Again, I’d like to wish them the all very best - we can’t wait to meet the new additions to the Woodlands family! I’m just disappointed that no one took me up on the offer to hold a competition so the children at school could choose the name of their baby… what could have possibly gone wrong?
The audience were enthralled by Y2’s end of the year show ‘The Bee Musical’. The children spoke clearly – they delivered their lines with confidence too. The songs were brilliantly sung & the dances beautifully danced. Everyone was thoroughly entertained & the underlying message was powerful too – thank goodness Beeyoncé saved the day! Thank you to everyone who helped the children look so brilliant in their costumes – they were stunning.
After a lot of crossed fingers (& toes), WOODfest III (Y6 end of year show) went ahead on the school field this morning – we just about managed to avoid the rain. The children performed across 3 stages & had the festival crowd in raptures throughout. Our Y6 pupils had written their own scripts, choreographed their own dances & carried out their own death-defying stunts (well, the odd custard pie in the face). The children loved performing in front of their families & their families responded with rapturous applause & lots of whooping & hollering. Unconfirmed sources estimate the crowd that gathered to watch the children’s performance of ‘The Final Countdown’ at the end of the festival was larger than the 120,000 that watched Sir Elton John at Glastonbury… Roll on WOODfest IV in ’24.
This week, our whole school attendance is 95.5%. We had no classes with 100% attendance this week & 4 classes reaching or exceeding our 97% target: Red Class (97.1%), Purple Class (98.2%), Yellow Class (99.6%) & 5/6P (97.6%).
We had 2 classes who had no late marks this week: 3/4M & 5/6P. We had 33 late marks across the whole school. 26 late marks were ‘before the register closed’ (that’s before 9.20am) & 7 late mark ‘after the register has closed’, that’s after 9.20am.
We had a new Rock Hero inducted into our Hall of Fame this week, the staff choice of music was as follows:
Bryan Adams ‘Summer of ‘69’ [Mrs Hughes 6R]
Just a reminder, next week, we finish at 2pm on Wednesday 19th July (although our Y6 pupils will leave for the final time at 1.30pm).
I hope you have a lovely weekend
