Spring Newsletter 9 [Friday 15th March]
Dear Parents & Carers
As part of the build-up to our Festival of Sport in June & July, on Monday & Tuesday of this week, children from Y1 to Y6 had the opportunity to work with TriKidz. TriKidz is a ‘participation based’ triathlon project aimed at primary school children. Their coaches, Sarah & Jahn, delivered the sessions & ensured every child was put through their paces. Trikidz ‘tagline’ is Swim, Bike, Fun. It’s a fully inclusive experience – they replicate swimming by using resistance bands, the children cycle on adapted racing bikes (on static trainers… don’t need to be capable of riding a bike) and the running part is simple. The project was started by Epic Events and their partners, The Endurance Store and B-Spoke Cycles. It’s funded by the Epic Kidz charity. The children had a great time & the following testimonial from one of the TriKidz coaches shows how impressed they were with our children:
“What can we say...............
We can't thank you all enough for two amazing days of triathlon/duathlon. The staff and children have been so willing to give 100% throughout the sessions.
I really can't put into words how well the children have represented their school and themselves throughout the sessions.
They have listened, shown lots of determination, teamwork and support for each other has been some of the best we have ever seen. The list goes on.”

On Wednesday, our Y5 pupils took part a ‘Diversity Role Models’ workshop where the children explored issues relating to equality & diversity. Many thanks to Emily Port from DRM who delivered the session. Emily was very impressed how our children conducted themselves throughout the workshop: they were fully engaged throughout, they showed great understanding & knowledge of the topics covered This is the seventh year we have arranged for the Diversity Role Models workshop to be delivered to our pupils; Woodlands’ Governing Body & Staff feel it is of great importance for the development of our children in today’s society. At Woodlands, we are committed to ensuring that everyone is treated fairly and with respect irrespective of their age, race, gender, sexuality, religious belief or socio-economic background; we feel that this workshop adds to our pupils’ growing understanding of these issues.
This week, our whole school attendance is 93.0% - well below our 97% target. We had no classes with 100% attendance. We only have 2 classes equalling or bettering 97%: Yellow Class (97.2%) & 3G (98.1%).
We only had 2 classes who had no late marks this week: 5D & 5/6P & 6R. We had 26 late marks across the whole school. 24 late mark were ‘before the register closed’ – that’s before 9.20am & 2 late marks ‘after the register has closed’, that’s after 9.20am.
