Spring Newsletter 8 [Friday 3rd March]
Dear Parents & Carers
Thank you to everyone who supported World Book Day. The children had a wonderful time looking at the stunning paper plate designs & taking part in Woodlands’ first ever Great Book Swap – I’m sure this will become an annual event in our calendar. Every child in school went home with a new book – brilliant! Our older children also were able to go & read with/to the children in reception & Y1&2 – it was lovely to see & made the day even more special. Thank you to Mrs Crilly & Miss Pickford for making the day so successful.
Those of you who have children in reception or Y1&2 will have probably noticed the wonderful pergola seating area that has appeared where the old ‘Quiet Garden’ was. The term quiet garden made it sound lovely, in reality is was a much-neglected corner of the infant playground, drab & desolate. The newly-installed pergola is an area where the children can sit & talk or play with their friends - once the area is turfed & planted up it will look stunning. I’d like to thank Mr Inskip, our wonderful site manager, for designing & building this magnificent structure – he is such an asset to our school.
Here’s this week’s conversation ‘nudges’ to help you find about your children’s learning…

This week, our whole school attendance is 96.3% - we’re still on the way back up! We had no classes with 100% attendance this week & 5 classes reaching or exceeding our 97% target: Red Class (97.7%), Yellow Class (97.1%), 3/4M (97.5%), 5D (98.8%) & 6R (99.2%).
We had had 3 classes who had no late marks this week: Red Class, Purple Class & 3/4M. We had 29 late marks across the whole school. 21 late marks were ‘before the register closed’ (that’s before 9.20am) & 8 late marks ‘after the register has closed’, that’s after 9.20am.
I received the following email from Sefton Climate Action Group; it looks like a great opportunity to help make our local environment a greener, healthier place.
Hello, my name is Cath O'Rourke. On behalf of Sefton Climate Action Group, I would like to invite your school to join our campaign to see more trees planted in Sefton.
You will be aware of the many benefits to air quality, the environment, nature and the wellbeing of our communities afforded by trees, and there is now a golden opportunity to see more planted in Sefton, through the creation of the new "Northern Forest".
Government grants are enabling tree charities, such as the excellent Mersey Forest, The Woodland Trust and others, to fund or part fund 10 million trees in the North West, as part of this scheme.
Sefton Climate are running a survey, collecting requests for trees in their local areas from Sefton residents, which will form the basis of a collaboration between the community, the tree charities and landowners which will see as many requests as viable, become trees. They could be planted in parks, greenspaces or in streets and even gardens...
Below is the link to our online survey, which you may like to send to your online school community.

I hope you have a lovely weekend
