Spring Newsletter 7 [Friday 24th February]

Dear Parents & Carers

It’s World Book Day on Thursday 2nd March. Don’t worry, we’re not asking you to dress your child as The Cat in the Hat, Hermione Granger or Willy Wonka; we’re not even asking you to decorate a spoon or carve a potato. To celebrate World Book Day, we would like you to help your child decorate a paper plate. You could make a character from a book, create a creature from a story, make a mask of a favourite book character or draw a cover of a book. You can be as creative as you like! (I have attached a photo with some ideas to help). Your child should have brought home a paper plate today. Your child will need to bring their amazing creation in on Thursday 2nd March 2023. Yesterday, you should have also received a message with regards to our ‘Great Book Swap’ which will also be happening on Word Book Day. We hope you are able to support both of these exciting events.

Here are the ‘nudges’ to help you find out about your child’s learning this week:

This week, our whole school attendance is 95.2% - we’re on the way back up! We had no classes with 100% attendance this week & two classes reaching or exceeding our 97% target: Red Class (98.6%) 6R (98.6%).

We had only had 2 classes who had no late marks this week: Yellow Class, 3/4M & 5/6P. We had 27 late marks across the whole school which is a big improvement on last week. 21 late marks were ‘before the register closed’ (that’s before 9.20am) & 6 late marks ‘after the register has closed’, that’s after 9.20am.

I would like to remind you that, due to the implications of ongoing industrial action on Tuesday 28th February, various activities of the school are being changed and amended, including some classes being closed. As things stand, Woodlands will only be open to children in the following classes on Tuesday 28th February:

  • 3G
  • 4T

All other classes in school will be closed to children on that day, including our nursery class. I will contact you if this situation changes.  School will be fully open again to all pupils on Wednesday 1st March.

Our school website & app are up & running smoothly again - hopefully, this issue is now resolved. We lost some articles that had been posted by staff on their class pages.

I hope you have a great weekend

Last word

Two wind turbines sit in the ocean, one turns to the other and says “What music do you listen to?”

The turbine says, “I’m a big heavy metal fan”.
