Spring Newsletter 2

Dear Parents & Carers

We all seem to have settled back into school life pretty seamlessly. The children are working hard & the staff are serene. Mind you, it’s a full moon on Monday* – things may change…

*Did you know a full moon in January is known as a Wolf Moon? It’s supposedly named after the packs of wolves heard outside the villages amid the cold & deep snows of winter. It can also be known as an Ice Moon – supposedly named after the packs of icicles that hang around on street corners, glowering menacingly at passers-by as they hurry home through the dark winters’ evenings.

After that startling revelation, here’s this week’s conversation starters…

Nursery

Who are the characters in Goldilocks & the Three Bears? (I think your children may need to be a wee bit more specific than just saying, “Goldilocks & the Three Bears.”)

{Literacy}

Reception [Red & Blue]

What does nocturnal mean? Can you name some nocturnal animals?

{Understanding the World}

Y1&2 [Green, Yellow & Purple]

Why was the River Nile important to the Ancient Egyptians?

{History topic: ‘Ancient Egypt’}

Y3&4 [3A, 3/4M & 4G]

What was the ‘union of the crowns’?

{History topic: ‘The Gunpowder Plot’}

Y5&6 [5D, 5/6P & 6R]

What is static electricity? Can you name some examples of it?

{Science topic ‘Electricity’}

Our overall attendance has risen slightly to at 92.8%. Well done to 4C, 5/6P & 6R, the only classes to have an attendance at 97% or above (98.3%. 98.0% & 98.1% respectively).

We had 4 classes who had no late marks this week: Green Class, Yellow Class, 5D & 6R. There was good improvement in punctuality: 9 late marks across the whole school. 4 late marks ‘before the register closed’ – that’s before 9.20am & 5 late marks ‘after the register has closed’, that’s after 9.20am.

Our spring term parents evenings, for pupils in reception to Y6, will be held face to face on Tuesday 8th & Wednesday 9th February (4pm – 7pm). We will be sending home details of how to book your appointments next week. After February half term, we will be contacting families of children in nursery to arrange their parents evening appointments.

I hope you enjoy the weekend.
