Autumn Newsletter 8 [Friday 4th November]
Dear Parents & Carers
I’ve got a couple of housekeeping items to start off this week’s newsletter…
As the nights are getting darker earlier, we will be locking the gates on to the school field at 3.45pm each night – the Wicks Lane gate & the side gate on to the junior playground. Please ensure you & your children have left the school site by then.
We will not be sending anymore messages out via ParentMail, everything will now come through School Spider – please make sure you have signed up for the app.
Once or twice each academic year, every child in school, from nursery to Y6, reads the same book; their English work is based on that book for a fortnight. Since we returned from October half term, the children have been reading/studying ‘Flotsam’ a wonderful book by David Wiesner. The book follows the journey of a camera as it travels through a series of unusual underwater worlds – the book is thought-provoking as well as imaginative. It’s proved to be a fertile source for discussion & writing across the whole school: in Early Years, the children have been talking & writing about animals that live under the sea; in Y1&2, the children are producing a fact file about an imaginary sea creature; in Y3&4, the children are creating a list poem; in Y5&6, the children are recounting a new adventure, writing in the first person as ‘Melville’, the camera in the original story. Staff will be producing a display in the main corridor to showcase the children’s work – I can’t wait to see it!
I want to give you the heads up on a few dates for school events (where parents can attend) on the run up to Christmas – a more detailed list will be coming soon.
- Y1 Nativity [Tuesday 13th December @09:15]
- Reception Christmas Show [Wednesday 14th December @09:15]
- Nursery Christmas Singalong [Wednesday 14th December sometime towards the end of the school day – time to be confirmed]
- Y3&4 Carol concert & Christmas songs [Friday 16th December @09:15]

This week, our whole school attendance is slightly up on last week at 95.6%. We had no classes with 100% attendance this week & no classes reaching or exceeding our 97% target:
We only had 2 classes who had no late marks this week: 3/4M & 5D. We had 40 late marks across the whole school. 22 late marks were ‘before the register closed’ (that’s before 9.20am) & 18 late marks ‘after the register has closed’, that’s after 9.20am.
Don’t forget it’s the individual photos next week for children (reception–Y6) on Tuesday 8th November.
Next week, we’re holding 6r’s parents evening with Mrs Rimmer on Tuesday 8th & Thursday 10th November (4pm-7pm).
Have a great weekend. If your celebrating bonfire night, keep safe.

Last word
I have decided that from the start of next week I am going to dress as a different kind of bread every day.
Roll on Monday!
