Autumn Newsletter 8 [Friday 3rd November]

Dear Parents & Carers

November. How is it November already?

At this time of year, our Y6 house captains are particularly busy; they have 2 important annual events to arrange. First, selling items to raise money for the Royal British Legion & then organising our fundraiser for BBC Children in Need (Friday 17th November). The poppies (& wristbands, snap rules, etc.) will be on sale every morning break in the infant & junior halls until Friday 10th November). They will be in touch with you soon about what’s happening for BBC Children in Need.

Talking of upcoming events, I’ll be sending out a list of dates next week detailing our festive events on the run up to Christmas – keep an eye out for the School Spider message.

Here’s this week’s ‘nudges’ to help you find out about your children’s learning:

Nursery

We have been looking at pumpkins. Can you describe what they look & feel like inside? What was inside?

{Understanding the World}

Reception [Red & Blue]

What is a pumpkin? Explain how it grows & what it used for.

{Understanding the World}

Y1&2 [Green, Yellow & Purple]

Can you explain some of the rules we follow on bonfire night?

{PSHE topic: ‘Firework Safety’}

Y3&4 [3A, 3/4M & 4G]

What happened in the Punic Wars (264 BC to 146 BC)?

{History topic: ‘The Rise & Fall of Ancient Rome’}

Y5&6 [5D, 5/6P & 6R]

How was British ‘democracy’ different in the past? [Think about why the suffragettes were protesting.]

{History topic: ‘The Suffragettes’}

This week, our whole school attendance is 96.3% - just below our 97% target. We have 0 classes with 100% attendance & we have 6 classes equalling or bettering 97%: Red Class (98.8%), Green Class (97.6), Yellow Class (97.6), 3G (97.1%), 3/4M (99.0%) & 5D (97.7%).

Good news on punctuality this week. We had 3 classes who had no late marks this week: 3/4M, 5/6P & 6R. We had 14 late mark across the whole school. 13 late mark were ‘before the register closed’ – that’s before 9.20am & 1 late mark ‘after the register has closed’, that’s after 9.20am. I’d like to say ‘well done’ to Green Class for having only one late mark this week – in the past, Green Class has often made up at least half of the late marks for the whole school

There’s one week left for your child to enter Range High School’s Arts Star competition (closing date Friday 10th November). It’s great event for the children to be involved with, the experience of performing their act in front an audience is something they would never forget.

On Tuesday, children from reception to Y6 will be having individual photos taken.

I have attached job descriptions for two roles within school: lunchtime welfare assistant & cleaner. We are looking for people to be employed on a casual basis so you would not be committed to working every day (unless you wanted to!). If know you anybody who would be interested in these positions, please pass the information on to them. Anyone who is interested in either job should contact the school office in person, by phone [01704 87644] or via email [[email protected]].

I hope you have a safe bonfire night.

Last word revisited

My neighbour banged on the wall at 4.20am. Can you believe that? Luckily, I was still up playing music.

He shouted, “Can we have a little respect please?”

So, I shouted back, “I’m not a big Aretha Franklin fan, but ok, this one’s for you!”
