Autumn Newsletter 6

Dear Parents & Carers

We’ve had increasing numbers of Covid-19 cases, particularly in our older aged group classes. Last week, on the advice of Public Health England, we sent out a letter asking parents of children in 5/6P & 6R to take their children for a PCR test. This week, as you will already know, we were asked to send out a letter reminding parents to “be vigilant around symptoms in your children and access PCR testing for testing for them if they develop symptoms” & “please continue to encourage hand hygiene and respiratory hygiene at home.” We then had to send home a letter requesting that the pupils in 5D take a lateral flow test. It has been reported that Formby currently has 5 times as many coronavirus cases as the average for the Liverpool City Region. This is one of the reasons why we have decided to hold autumn’s parents evenings (reception – Y6) over the phone. The Google Form to book an appointment with your child’s class teacher closes at midday on Monday (11th October).

Our #HelloYellow event to raise funds for YoungMinds was a great success, if somewhat harsh on the retinas. We raised £258.58 for this wonderful charity.

Here’s this week’s conversation starters to help you find out about your child’s learning.

Nursery

This week we have been looking at different emotions, what makes you happy? I know this is the same question as last week. Mrs Simpson has been very efficient & given me her questions in advance. This system falls down if the person issued with the questions (i.e. me) has difficulty reading dates correctly – the Woodlands’ Chronology Elves are not happy… Last week’s question was: ‘This week we have been exploring our library, what is your favourite book to read?’

Reception [Red & Blue]

Can you make patterns at home using objects from around your house or garden?

Can you find any patterns in your home?

Y1&2 [Green, Yellow & Purple]

Can you name the seven continents?

{Geography topic: ‘Spatial Sense’}

Y3&4 [3A, 3/4M & 4G]

How did the Romans influence European language?

{History topic: ‘Ancient Rome’}

Y5&6 [5D, 5/6P & 6R]

What does the SMART acronym mean?

{Computing topic ‘E-safety’}

Still no classes achieved 100% in their attendance this week & our overall attendance has risen infinitesimally to 95.7%. Ideally, we would want our attendance to be well above 97% each week.

We had 5 classes who had no late marks this week: Green Class, 3G,  3/4M, 5/6P &  6R.   There were 11 late marks across the whole school.

Next Tuesday (12 October) Sefton’s school health team will be in school administering flu immunisations to children from reception to Y6.

Have a lovely weekend
