Autumn Newsletter 6 [Friday 14th October]
Dear Parents & Carers
Each week we hold our Star of the Week assembly last thing on a Friday afternoon. We celebrate the children’s work, accomplishments in Times Table Rock Stars, find out who the weekly House Cup winners are & wait with baited breath to see which classes have managed to hit the magic 97% attendance mark. We also celebrate our ‘Good Citizens’. Our good citizens are children who have been noticed by staff acting in a way that has made life at Woodlands a wee bit better. Small but important things. Tiny changes: holding the door open for someone else to walk through; helping someone to pick up belongings if they’ve dropped them; asking a member of staff if they’ve had a good weekend. Last week, I was pleased to be able to give Good Citizen stickers to two children in KS1. Whilst delivering the registers to the school office, these children noticed one of their classmates was upset & reluctant to come into school. Without prompting, they asked if the child would like to walk back to class with them. I thought that was really kind. This week, I was able to reward two children from KS2 who looked after a couple of their classmates when they were upset. They took the time to talk to them both & make sure they were okay, before telling an adult what had happened. Again, a small act of kindness that made Woodlands a better place. Our children are great.
Here’s this week’s conversation starters to help you find out about your children’s learning (as for Y3&4’s question – I’m pretty sure Rio does not have a Yates’s…).

This week, our whole school attendance is slightly up on last week at 95.0%. We had no classes with 100% attendance this week & 5 classes exceeding our 97% target: 3/4M (98.7%) Red Class (98.2%), Blue Class (97.0%), 4T (97.2%) & 6R (97.8%).
We had 3 classes who had no late marks this week: Blue Class, 3/4M & 5/6P. We had 24 late marks across the whole school. 21 late marks were ‘before the register closed’ (that’s before 9.20am) & 3 late marks ‘after the register has closed’, that’s after 9.20am.
I look forward to seeing you at our parents evening next week: Tuesday 18th & Thursday 20th October (4pm-7pm). ‘Tony the Book’ will be based in the junior hall selling a range of quality book. What better way of rewarding your children for a ‘good report’ from their class teacher than with a cracking book to immerse themselves in! We now have 68% of our parents signed up to the School Spider app. Thank you for the understanding you have shown with any ‘hiccups’ getting on to the app – as with the introduction with any new system, there’s always a few gremlins lurking.
I hope you have a lovely weekend
