Autumn Newsletter 5 [Friday 6th October]
Dear Parents & Carers
Yesterday, we celebrated National Poetry Day with an assembly led by Miss Pickford & Mrs Crilly, our English leads in school. This year’s theme was ‘Refuge’ &, throughout the week, the children in each phase looked at a different poem on this topic:
Nursery Take a Deep Breath Joseph Coelha
Reception The Grass House Shirley Hughes
Y1&2 My Treasures Kate Wakeling
Y3&4 On the Move Again from Somewhere Michael Rosen
Y5&6 At the End of the Day Matt Goodfellow
The assembly finished with a wonderfully silly poem from Michael Rosen called ‘Don’t’ – you can watch it by following the link (it’s only 1 minute 10 seconds long). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oaq3gzswei0
The children were also set a challenge to find a poem they really like & share it with people at home. Maybe you could share one of your favourite poems with them too.
Here’s this week’s ‘nudges’ to help you find out about your children’s learning:

This week, our whole school attendance is 96.5% - just below our 97% target. We have 0 classes with 100% attendance & we have 5 classes equalling or bettering 97%: Red Class (97.4%), Blue Class (97.3%), Yellow Class (97.2%), 3/4M (98.3%) & 5/6P (97.4%).
We had 3 classes who had no late marks this week: Red Class, 3/4M & 5/6P. We had 30 late mark across the whole school. 24 late mark were ‘before the register closed’ – that’s before 9.20am & 6 late marks ‘after the register has closed’, that’s after 9.20am.
Last Wednesday, you should have received a School Spider message with details of how to access our parents evenings (reception – Y6) on Tuesday 17th & Thursday 19th October (4pm - 7pm). Those details are: please make an appointment via the School Spider app… The closing date to book an appointment is 12 noon on Thursday 12th October.
I have attached a flyer from Formby Food Pantry explaining the wonderful work they do in our community. In next week’s newsletter, I’ll tell you how Woodlands is looking to get involved with the Food Pantry as part of a harvest celebration.
I have also attached a flyer from Shoebox Express, a great charity based in Formby, which is focusing on brightening up the lives of children in Ukraine a wee bit this Christmas. There are details of how your family can get involved in this heart-warming project – free bacon rolls too!
I hope you have a VAR-free weekend
