Autumn Newsletter 4 [Friday 30th September]
Dear Parents & Carers
The children had a great time today wearing the clothes that made them feeling happy: a scattering of slippers; a parade of princesses; the odd superhero or two; a multitude of hoodies. The list was endless. Mind you, with the weather being so awful today, the people who were probably the happiest were those wearing their onesies! Thank you for supporting FOWSA with your donations
Our new school website (hosted by School Spider) is now finally up & running. You’ll find most things you need to know about school on there – news, events, term dates, curriculum maps, etc. The class blogs for each phase (nursery, reception, Y1&2, Y3&4 + 5&6) will be added to over the coming weeks. Each We’re still having difficulty getting our reception staff (Red & Blue Class) signed into it – Woodlands Tech Elves are currently working on this (switching it off & on again hasn’t worked…). It’s got the same domain name as our previous website, but in the future, you’ll be able to make online payments for school trips & dinner money, etc. We’ll keep you informed of when this will happen. https://www.woodlandsschoolformby.co.uk/
Before October half term we will be holding our first parents evenings of the year for pupils in reception to Y6. It will be an opportunity for you to find out how your children have started the new academic year & what support you can give them from home. The partnership between home & school is vital – we are very lucky at Woodlands having so many parents that are supportive of both their children & school. The parents evenings will be on Tuesday 18th October & Thursday 20th October between 4pm & 7pm.
The school office are looking to arrange the booking of these parents evening appointments through our new school website. There will be a ParentMail sent out early next week with details of how to download the School Spider app – you will need to have downloaded this app in order to book your parents evening appointments.
This week’s ‘nudges’ to help you start conversations about your children’s learning are as follows…

This week, our whole school attendance has risen slightly to 96.1%. We had no classes with 100% attendance this week but we have 5 classes exceeding our 97% target: Red Class (98.6%), Blue Class (97.4%), Purple Class (97.2%), Yellow Class (97.9%) & 5D (98.1%).
We had 5 classes who had no late marks this week: Blue Class, Purple Class, Yellow Class, 3/4M & 5/6P. We had 25 late marks across the whole school. 20 late marks were ‘before the register closed’ (that’s before 9.20am) & 5 late marks ‘after the register has closed’, that’s after 9.20am.
Next week, on Thursday 6th October, we’re holding the first of two reception open mornings. Children, who are due to start in reception September 2023, can come along with a parent & experience life in our reception classes first hand.
Have a good weekend
