Autumn Newsletter 3 [Friday 23rd September]

Dear Parents & Carers

Our Y6 House Captain’s were announced last week & they have already started planning their first event – you will no doubt find out about it in due course! Across Y6, the children have been allocated their roles for the year & will soon be swinging into action as Playground Pals, Tech Crew & Sports Leaders – they all play vital roles at Woodlands. The children respond well to the extra responsibility of these roles, whether it’s helping reception & Y1&2 pupils in the dinner hall, rescuing me when the tech goes horribly wrong during assembly or teaching sports skills on the infant playground at lunch. We are always very proud of the difference our Y6 children make to Woodlands – I’m sure this year’s cohort will be no different.

Yesterday, Mrs Mowatt led an assembly to our KS2 children Y3-Y6 which explained how children can become a school councillor. Mrs Mowatt is looking for 4 children from each year group to make up this year’s school council. If your child is interested in this role, they need to inform their class teacher & be willing to give a short ‘speech’ to their year group as to why they would be a good school councillor & what ideas they have for improving out school. The speeches will be delivered the week beginning Monday 3rd October, voting will take place on Thursday 6th October, & the results will be announced on Friday 7th October. Maybe we will have some budding politicians on our hands…

Here are the ‘nudges’ to help you find out about your child’s learning this week:

This week, our whole school attendance has dropped to 95.9%. We had no classes with 100% attendance this week but we have 5 classes exceeding our 97% target: Blue Class (98.9%), Purple Class (98.7%), 3/4M (99.6%), 5D (97.6%) & 6R (98.4%).

We had 6 classes who had no late marks this week: Blue Class, Yellow Class, 3/4M, 5D, 5/6P & 6R. We only had 8 late marks across the whole school. 5 late marks were ‘before the register closed’ – that’s before 9.20am & 3 late marks ‘after the register has closed’, that’s after 9.20am.

FOWSA are holding their first fundraiser of the year, next Friday (30th September). It’s a non-uniform day with the theme: wear something that makes you feel good. Feel good clothing can include, but is not limited to, their favourite t-shirt & jeans – it’s simply something that makes your child smile and gives them an extra confidence boost. Maybe it’s a fleecy jumper or a favourite hoodie. Perhaps being dressed as a mermaid, superhero or princess is more their style. Parents have been asked to remember that the children are still in school as normal so it would be unfortunate for someone's best party clothes to get covered in paint or curry sauce… In exchange for the children wearing something that makes them feel good, FOWSA have asked for a voluntary donation of £1 per child or £2 per family. I know they will be grateful for your continued support.

Does anybody have a full-size electric guitar that they don’t use any more? We’re looking for one to be part of a TT Rock Stars display in the junior hall. It doesn’t have to work, but it must still look good. Rock Hero’s don’t sign any ol’ guitar! If you do think you could help us, please contact the school office [01704 876444 / [email protected]].

Have a good weekend
