Autumn Newsletter 2 [Friday 15th September]

Dear Parents & Carers

Thank you to everyone who attended this week’s parents information evenings, it was great to see so many of you there. We know how important links between school & home are – the stronger these links are, the more beneficial it is for the children.

Y6 parents should have received a message through School Spider outlining the process of how to apply for a place at secondary school for your child. This is an online process: it is open now & closes on Tuesday 31st October. If you haven’t received this information, please contact the school office.

This week’s ‘nudges’ to help you start conversations about your children’s learning are as follows…

Nursery

What’s your favourite thing about nursery?

{Communication & Language}

Reception [Red & Blue]

Talk about what you have enjoyed doing the most in your first full week at school.

{Communication & Language}

Y1&2 [Green, Yellow & Purple]

Can you describe what a bog baby is & what it looks like?

{English topic: ‘Bog Baby’ Jeanne Willis}

Y3&4 [3A, 3/4M & 4G]

What is nutrition & why is it important?

{Science topic: ‘The Human Body’}

Y5&6 [5D, 5/6P & 6R]

What are the 3 types of blood vessels? What can you tell me about each of them?

{Science topic: ‘The Circulatory System’}

Parents, from nursery to Y6, should have received a School Spider message with regards the ‘Our Flu’ campaign. Woodlands children will receive their vaccination on Thursday 2nd November. Sefton Immunisation Team state: The nasal flu vaccination is being offered to all primary and some nursery children.  To ensure your child does not miss out on their flu spray you must opt in or opt out here https://econsent.merseycare.nhs.uk/ We would request that you complete the consent form as soon as it is received. If your child receives the flu vaccination at the GP you will need to inform us on 0151 247 6130. Thank you for your co-operation.

Next Friday we have an author, Josh Lacey, visiting our KS2 children (Y3-Y6) to talk to them about his books & the process of being a writer. We’ll send out a flyer with further details early next week.

This week, our whole school attendance is 98.9% - smashing our 97% target! We have 0 classes with 100% attendance, but we have 10 classes bettering 97%: Red Class (99.6%), Blue Class (99.1%), Green Class (99.3%), Purple Class (99.6%), Yellow Class (99.7%), 3G (98.1%), 3/4M (99.7%), 5D (98.8%), 5/6P (99.4%) & 6R (99.0%). Great news!

We had 3 classes who had no late marks this week: 3/4M, 5D & 5/6P. We had 12 late mark across the whole school. 11 late mark was ‘before the register closed’ – that’s before 9.20am & 1 late marks ‘after the register has closed’, that’s after 9.20am.

I have attached a flyer from Formby Junior Sports Club with details of how to join their football coaching sessions & games on Saturday mornings; children from reception to Y8 are welcome.

Have a great weekend
