Autumn Newsletter 15 [Tuesday 20th December]

Dear Parents & Carers

I’m starting with a goodbye today. Mrs Matthews, one of our wonderful office staff, is moving on. She’s been at Woodlands for the past 8 years & we are sad to see her go; she has encyclopaedic levels of knowledge about which family members we should contact or who is not available on a Tuesday morning before 11:00am, etc. Actually, I don’t think Mrs Matthews is leaving for a job in HR, I think she’s found herself a role in MI5. I’d like to thank Mrs Matthews for all her hard work over the years – we will miss her.

Don’t forget it’s the panto tomorrow for everyone from reception to Y6 – please make sure your children arrive at school on time because we have to leave promptly & will not be able to ask the coaches to wait for anyone.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff at Woodlands for their hard work over the past term. I’ve said it before, but not often enough, that I am very fortunate to be headteacher of a school where the staff are so dedicated to the children in their care.  From teachers to TAs, from our office staff to Mr Inskip (site manager), from our LWAs (dinner ladies in old money) to our cleaners – not forgetting our wonderful cooks in the kitchen; they have been brilliant. I hope they all manage to get a well-deserved break over the holidays.

Please encourage your children to read over the Christmas break – if they say they don’t like reading it’s just because they haven’t found the right books to read yet. There are so many wonderful books & wonderful authors who write about anything & everything – there’s no excuse not to read. It’s so important to your children’s understanding, knowledge & development.

Don’t forget, we have an INSET day on Wednesday 4th January so we’ll see you all again on Thursday 5th January 2023!

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy & Healthy New Year on behalf of all the staff at Woodlands.
