Autumn Newsletter 15 [Thursday 21st December]
Dear Parents & Carers
As the autumn term draws to a close, the final festive activities have taken place. Our junior choir sang with Crosby Symphony Orchestra at their Christmas Concert last Saturday. What an experience for the children! Imagine being able to singing ‘Walking in the Air’ backed by a symphony orchestra – there was hardly a dry eye in the house. Thank you to CSO for giving us the opportunity to take part – it’s something those who were there will never forget. The children who stayed for Holly the Chef’s world-famous Christmas dinner on Tuesday were served up a tasty treat – roast turkey (veggie optional available too) with all the trimmings. The wonderful team in the kitchen’s meals are always delicious but their Christmas dinner is something special. Y3&4’s Christmas Singalong went down a storm with their parents & grandparents on Wednesday morning - the children performed brilliantly – their singing was simply magnificent! They recapped their show this morning to the rest of the school – what a lovely way to finish the term.
Thank you to all of you who have sent messages of thanks to your children’s class teachers/TAs – you will never know how much a few words can mean to our staff.
Please encourage your children to read over the Christmas break – if they say they don’t like reading it’s just because they haven’t found the right books to read yet. There are so many wonderful books & wonderful authors who write about anything & everything – there’s no excuse not to read. It’s so important to your children’s understanding, knowledge & development.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff at Woodlands for their dedication & hard work, not only during the autumn term, but throughout the whole of 2023. I am very fortunate to be the headteacher at a school with such amazing staff: from teachers to TAs, from our office staff to Mr Inskip (site manager), from our LWAs (dinner ladies in old money) to our cleaners – not forgetting our wonderful cooks in the kitchen. They have been brilliant. I hope they all manage to get a well-deserved break over the holidays.
I have attached ‘Nature Haven News’ - the autumn/winter update from the National Trust in Formby.
I hope you all have a lovely time over the break & get to spend plenty of time with your loved ones. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy & Healthy New Year on behalf of all the staff at Woodlands.
