Dear Parents & Carers

What a brilliantly hectic week that was! The children have been performing shows for the pupils in school & for their parents & carers too. Y1 went first with their wonderful story Shine Star, Shine where Big Star is having difficulty lighting the way to the stable in Bethlehem – luckily, he rediscovers his spark just in the nick of time. Reception were up next with their tale of Ralph the Reindeer, who managed to save Father Christmas’ deliveries with the help of Rudolph.  Our nursery class delighted their families with a selection of Christmas songs – the children were brilliant – some of them appearing on a stage for the very first time! The final performance of the week was by Y3&4 with their ‘Carol’ Concert; the children sang a wonderful range of festive favourites (some new, some old) with much enthusiasm & style – a great time was had by all in attendance.

I’m always so impressed with how Woodlands’ staff coax such wonderful performances from the children. There are obviously different levels of confidence, but everyone was able to stand in front of an audience & say their lines, sing their songs or dance their dances.

During this week, we’ve also had our Y5&6 children designing & making slippers in DT. Their parents & carers were invited in to work alongside them for an hour or so on Wednesday morning. Check out the class blogs on our website to see photos of their wonderful creations.

On Thursday, Father Christmas parked his sleigh on the school roof while he popped in to deliver some presents to the children at the reception & Y1&2 parties – they were thrilled to see the big man. Currently, Y5&6’s Christmas disco is in full swing – “get on your dancing shoes” - thanks to DJ Alex who is, as ever, keeping them enthused, energised & thoroughly entertained.

I won’t mention our attendance & punctuality this week. Suffice to say, that hopefully 2023 will bring in an improvement.

Don’t forget, Holly’s famous Christmas dinner is being served on Tuesday. Even if your child is staying packed lunch, feel free to decorate their lunchbox or send them in with a cracker to pull.

Have a good weekend.
