Autumn Newsletter 12 [Friday 1st December]

Dear Parents & Carers

The first day of December. Only 31 days of 2023 left…

The massed ranks of our Junior Choir are busy rehearsing for a series of exciting shows over the next few weeks. The squad is looking strong &, injuries & suspensions permitting, they should be at full strength going into the busy festive period. They kick off with a mid-week fixture at Elbow Lane Methodist Church (Thursday 7th December) & then are again on home ground at St. Joseph’s Care Home (Wednesday 13th December) for a much-anticipated gig. Their season draws to a close with an away performance alongside Crosby Symphony Orchestra at St. Faith’s Church (Saturday 16th December). I’d like to thank Mrs Rimmer not only for organising these events but for her hard work, creativity & limitless patience – the life of a top-level choir coach is not easy. The children love being part of the junior choir & it’s great they get to experience these wonderful games concerts.

As you can tell from the questions below, our two-week English topic based on the book ‘An Emotional Menagerie’ has begun.

This week, our whole school attendance has dropped to 94.3% - well below our target of 97%. We have 0 classes with 100% attendance & we only have 3 classes equalling or bettering 97%: Red Class (99.1%), Red Class (98.2%) & Yellow Class (97.2%).

We only had 1 class who had no late marks this week: 5/6P. We had 47 late mark across the whole school. 46 late mark were ‘before the register closed’ – that’s before 9.20am & 1 late mark ‘after the register has closed’, that’s after 9.20am.

Our school Christmas tree has arrived! As usual, a huge to thank you to Wright Landscapes for making such a generous donation. They also source the tree, cut it to size, add a base, deliver it & take it away again – superstars!. The children love it & are looking forward to making their decorations to hang on it over the coming days.

There was a merry band of FOWSA volunteers collecting bottles, sweets & chocolate from the classes this morning; thank you for all the donations for Festive Friday (8th December) in lieu of payment for non-uniform day today. I would also like to thank FOWSA for their hard work & dedication to Woodlands – I’ve said it before but we would be lost without them! If you would like to volunteer to help with Festive Friday either on the day itself or setting up on the Thursday, please drop FOWSA an email [email protected] - thank you. These wonderful events cannot run without the support of our parents, cares & families.

All the Christmas activities, parties & shows are listed on the school website ‘Upcoming Events’ pages: https://www.woodlandsschoolformby.co.uk/

I hope you all have a good weekend.
