Week beginning 3rd October
Date: 3rd Oct 2022 @ 4:25pm
This week we are reading the story 'Elmer' by David McKee. We will be talking about how we are all different. We will be discussing how Elmer feels and why he feels happy and sad. We will be using our 'Talk Partners' in the classroom to say when we feel happy and sad. Talk about what you do as a family that makes you feel happy. Do you enjoy going to certain places and doing special things.
We will be doing lots of creative activities using colour and collage materials.
Here are some examples of Elmer that the children created.
In mathematics we will be looking at patterns. We will be making patterns with 2 colours and 2 shapes. Can you find patterns around your home? Have you got any clothes with patterns on? We will also be using language to say word patterns. You could try this at home, saying 2 words and repeating them.
We used 2 colours of paint to create a repeating pattern.
We made 2 colour repeating patterns using cubes in our provision.
Here are some of the engaging activities that the children will be doing this week.
We have loved using Play-Doh to improve our fine motor skills, make trunks for Elmer and creating scenes from the story. We have rolled, cut, pinched and pressed the play-Doh in our hands and using tools.
We have traced around an outline of Elmer to improve our pencil grip. We are all trying really hard to use a 'Tripod' grip with our fingers. Look at how good we are!
We have sent reading books home this week.
Please try and read on a daily basis and fill in the reading diary. We will collect and hand out new books every Monday and Thursday.
