Week beginning 21st November
Date: 18th Nov 2022 @ 9:43am
This week we are going to be looking at story that rhymes. We will be reading the famous 'Room on the broom' story by Julai Donaldson. We will be encouraging the children to use 'Talk for wrting' to describe the different characters in the book. This will encourage their communication, language and speaking skills. They will be writing short captions and holding the words in their head before writing.
If you have some julia Donaldson books at home you could read them and familiarise the children with the different books she has written.
What a fabilous week of writing! The children have used the structure from their Read Write Inc sessions to write short captions about characters from the story. They have even tried to use capital letters and full stops.
We will be making our own broomsticks and wands, using lots of different materials. We will use these in our imaginary play. We will also link this to our 'Outdoor Learning' session and use natural materials like sticks and leaves to make wands. We will be painting with spaghetti broomsticks.
here are some images from our creative area. We have made lots of wands and cast many spells, even turning Mr Williams into a frog!
We worked together to make large collage models of the witch and the dragon from the story.
In mathematics we will be exploring one more and one less than. We will be watching the Numberblocks series to identify what happens when we add 1 more and subtract 1 less. We will be using Numicon, number lines and 10 frames.
At home you could count on and back. You could try counting on and back from different numbers like 2, 4 and 7.
We have been very secure with saying and finding 1 more. We used practical apparatus to help us find 1 less too.
