Week beginning 16th January
Date: 13th Jan 2023 @ 3:58pm
This week we are continuing to read 'While the World is Sleeping' by Pamela Duncan Edwards. So far it has taught is lots of facts about nocturnal animals. We are going to be making story maps so that we can retell the story ourselves. We will be joining in with repeated refrains and looking at story language and using words like first, next, then and finally in our retelling activities.
You could talk to your child about the animals in the story. See if they can name some of them and describe what they are like.
In mathematics we are combining numbers to make bigger numbers. We will be using mathematical language for addition and recording using marks and numerlas. We have been singing counting songs to help us with number composition.
We built Numicon towers using different ways to make 5.
You could sing songs with number in that involve adding 1 more and taking 1 away like 5 little monkeys, 5 little ducks and any others that the children can remember.
We will be working with clay this week to make our very own little hibernating, nocturnal hedgehogs. We will send them home once they are dry for you to admire.
These are some wonderful examples of what we have made.
We have used plasticine to make different kinds of bears and talked about their habitats. We had fun putting noses and eyes on them.
