Week beginning 14th November
Date: 10th Nov 2022 @ 4:12pm
This week we are going to be looking at stories that rhyme. We will be reading a book called 'Potion Commotion'. It is a rhyming story about creating a potion using different ingredients. We will be encouraging the children to use 'Talk for wrting' to think of their own potions and all the wonderful (and discusting) things that they would include.. This will encourage their communication, language and speaking skills. They will be writing rhyming strings, listening for the patterns in sounds and looking at the letters that make the sounds.
The children completed some fabulous independent writing in provision.
You could think of your own rhyming strings at home. What rhymes with rat, man, pin?
You could also make up your own potions at home. Can you write a list of ingredients?
We will be creating our own potions in class using coloured water, jelly and lots of other ingredients.
This week the children had great fun and were creative too. They talked about colours, the texture and pretended to be scientists.
They also did some magic name writing using white crayons and paints.
The children mixed colours and painted their own potion bottles after listening to the story.
In mathematics we will be exploring and noticing the different compositions of the number 5. We will be watching the Numberblocks series about 5 and reading Kipper's Birthday by Mick Inkpen. We will be looking at different ways to represent 5 using objects, maeks and numerals.
At home you could look for the number 5 in your home and local environment, You could also coult out 5 objects during play activities.
