Reception-Week beginning 9th October

Date: 5th Oct 2023 @ 5:19pm

This week we will be reading 'Elmer and the Rainbow'. We will be comparing the story with the one we read last week. We will be looking for similarities and differences. We will be focusing on colours and using 'Fred talk' to say the sounds in each colour. We will be writing the initial sounds for colours and using 'Talk Partners' to discuss what our favourite colours are and why. We will be learning songs with actions and playing instruments to accompany them.

You could look for colours around your home and group things into colours. You could sing songs about colours and the rainbow.

In mathematics we are looking at repeating patterns and building on our knowledge from this week. We will be identifying and continuing patterns using objects, musical instruments, shapes, colours and even language.

You could make your own patterns with objects from around your home. You could collect, leaves, conkers, twigs and use natural objects to make patterns.

In our creative area we will be painting rainbows and mixing colours. We will be using primary colours to make secondary colours. We will also be looking at how to make different shades of a colour. We will be reading a poem called 'I spy with my coloured eye'. It will really enable the children name and group colours according to their properties.
