Reception- Week beginning 9th May
Date: 4th May 2023 @ 4:11pm
We are continuing to read the story of rapunzel but making comparisons with different modern authors who have used created fairy tales with different setting. Rachel Isador wrote the story with an African setting and Archana Sreenivasan retold the story with Indian illustrations. this allows the children to make comparisons about the characters and setting but still understand the story follows the same theme. We will be creating our own collage illustrations and retelling the stories verbally and in writing.
Please continue to read traditional and fairy tales to your child at home, comparing how they begin and end.
We will be creating lots of pictures about the settings of the stories and using collage materials. We will continue to work together to build towers and use different construction materials.
We have been providing the children with STEM opportunities. We asked them... How can they save Rapunzel from the tower?
Here are some of the ways they found.
In mathematics we will be adding by counting on. We will be holding the big number in our heads before counting on smaller amount. We will be doing this practically using concrete materials and for some children we will encourage them to try mentally counting on.
At home you can continue to make sure your child knows bonds to make 10 and count forwards confidentally, saying what numbers come next in a sequence, starting at different numbers up to 20.
This week we had a wonderful time in our 'Outdoor Learning' session. We talked about how bad plastic and glitter is for our earth so we made our own using natural materials!
