Reception- Week beginning 6th November

This week we are reading 'Room on the Broom' by Julia Donaldson. We will be reading the book every day so that the children become familiar with the repeated phrases. We will be focusing on words that rhyme and ordering parts of the story. The children will be writing short captions to describe the witch and we will be using our phonics to help us to find the sounds that we need to write CVC words.
We will be looking at the life of Julia Donaldson and introducing the words author and illustrator.
We will also be talking about Bonfire Night and why we celebrate it. We have already had discussions with the children about why we celebrate this night and how to keep safe.
You could talk to your child and reinforce the rules about staying safe and even ask them to tell you about Guy Fawkes.
When you read to your child you could talk about the author of the book you are reading.
In mathematics we are looking at circles and triangle. We will learning to identify, sort and group them. We will be describing their properties and looking at shapes in the environement. We will also be learning about positions and using positional language. We have also been consolidating our counting and numbers skills in the continuous provision.
At home you could try and find circles and triangles and go on a hunt for them in your house and local environment. You could also talk about the positions of objects in different rooms of your home.
We will be invistigating signs of Autumn. We will be looking at changes in our local environement and discussing why these changes take place.
in our creative area we will be using different materials to make bonfire and firework scenes.
