Reception- Week beginning 5th February

Date: 1st Feb 2024 @ 4:08pm

This week we are continuing with our Polar theme. We will be writing a short adventure story for Penguin Small. We will be using our story maps from last week to help us to retell the beginning, middle and ending.

In our creative area we are mixing shades to create beautiful iceberg scenes. In Geography we are looking at world maps and making links to where we live, the North and South pole.

We are also celebrating Chinese New Year. We will be researching the year of the dragon. We will look at how children and families celebrate this special occasion and making links to previous learning about celebrations that we have already covered.

You could talk about things you celebrate as a family. If you are in Liverpool you could visit China Town and look at the decorations.

In mathematics we will continue to learn about 6, 7 and 8. We will be learning 1 more/less, representation and composition of the numbers.

You could try adding small groups of objects together to make 6, 7 and 8. You could look at different arrangements.

For 6

3 and 3, 2 and 4, 4 and 2, 5 and 1, 1 and 5.
