Reception-Week beginning 26th June 2023
Date: 26th Jun 2023 @ 5:41pm
Land Ahoy!
This week we begin our adventures on the seas. we will be reading a wonderful story called 'The Night Pirates'. It is an imaginative story about a little boy who joins a crew. We will be drawing, painting and adding detail to our own treasure island maps to begin our pirate adventures. We will be using story language and descriptive language too. this week is all about the setting and how imaginative we can be.
You could look at any maps that you have at home or that you see in stories. you could talk about what they have on them, a key and compass points.
In mathematics we will be looking at 2D shapes and Tangrams. We will be talking about and making pictures using shapes. We will be rotating, turning and moving shapes to fit into patterns and pictures.
Look around your home and find differntly shaped objects. Can you turn them around so that they look different, yet they are still the same shape?
We will exploring treasure chests filled with lots of different objects and encouraging the children to describe how they look and feel. We will be using our outdoor area to follow a map to find the hidden treasure with a X
We will be cutting and sticking pictures and features of a treasure island on to a map. We may even make our own pirate hats and cutlasses. Outdoors we will be making sand castles, looking at things that float and sink in water and making a huge pirate ship using Poddely. We will be making telescopes and using them to spy on our shipmates, having adventures in our own lookout lodge. I'm sure your child will be able to sing you a pirate song or two by the end of the week with actions to match!
