Reception-Week beginning 24th April
Date: 18th Apr 2023 @ 5:04pm
This week we are reading the fabulous, award winning book called SHHH! by Sally Grindley. It is an alternative version of Jack and the Beanstalk. The children will be asked to note similarities and differences between the different versions of the story they have read so far. We will be creating, drawing and writing about our own giants. We will be adding description to our writing. We will be talking about the word HUGE and thinking of all different meanings and words that are the same.
We designed our own giants and added detail to make them look angry.
We then wrote about our giants, focusing on using phoneticsounds with letters that are mostly correctly formed.
You could talk about words that mean the same for big and small.
In mathematics we are going beyond 10. We will be looking at numbers to 20, ways to represent them using concrete apparatus and matching them to numerals. We will be singing lots of songs that involve counting backwards and forwards.
You could look for numbers up to 20 in your environment and count forwards and backwards to 20 when you are walking, mounting stairs and playing games.
In our creative area we will be making our own beanstalks by paper ripping, using scissors to cut and twisting paper.
Here are some of our paper sculpting creations!
As we are nearly halfway through spring we will be looking at our outdoor area/copse and looking for seasonal flowers. We have already noticed the beautiful blossom trees.
We used our fingers to paint blossom on our trees.
We designed and drew our own patterns on shields. We revisted prior learning from our mathematics sessions last week and developed it in our creative and fine motor activities.
