Reception- Week beginning 22nd April

Date: 18th Apr 2024 @ 5:03pm

This week we are reading different versions of Rapunzel from different cultures. We will be comparing them and talking about the similarities and differences. We will be looking at the settings and how they are illustrated. The children will be writing their own Fairy Tales based on Rapunzel. They will be using their phonetic knowledge and skills to write short phrases and sentences to retell a known/familiar story.

You could help at home by reading fairy tales and talking about thier similarities. Do they all have godd/bad characters? Are they all set in palaces? Do the stories all end happily ever after?

In mathematics we are learning about the numbers 11, 12, 13 and 14. We will be looking at their composition and how they build on 10. We will be counting forwards and backwards, identifying 1 more/less and making the numbers using Numicon so that we can see how many more than 10 it is.We will be representing numbers in different ways and making our own 10 frames from egg boxes, sticks and other materials.

You can help at home by finding these teen numbers around your local environment.

In our outdoors we are making castles and towres using Poddely and building materials. We will be working together and encouraging the children to problem solve. We are also developing our reading and quiet area in our outdoors. We are encouraging the children to help us and they are using it to retell stories, roleplay and act out familiar fairy tales.
