Reception- Week beginning 20th March

Date: 17th Mar 2023 @ 4:46pm

54321 Blast off!

This week we blast off into space for our new topic... To Infinity and Beyond.

We will be reading the book 'Aliens Love Underpants'. The children will be drawing and designing their own aliens and then writing a description about what they look like. We will be encouraging the children to really use their imagination and language skills to explain and describe special feature like spotty bodies, wiggly arms, pointy teeth and spiky horns.

We will also be revisiting NSPCC PANTS and linking it to the story. We will be designing our own pants and talking about how privates stay private and how our bodies belong to us.

If you have any space books or stories at home you could read them together and discuss what space is like. You could try drawing planets or aliens and describe them using full sentences and lots of vivid language.

Our continuous provision looks really exciting for the children and we are hoping that they will engage with the creative elements to improve and secure their expressive language and speaking skills.

In mathematics we are consolidating the composition of numbers to 10. We will be looking at all the different ways to make 10. We will be starting to record our number sentneces. We will be learning songs and rhymes that help us to remember our number bonds.

By now the children should be confident saying 1 more and less than any number to 10. Please try and incorporate this into daily activities at home. You could try this when going up and down stairs, setting plates at the dinner table, counting out toys or when in your local environment looking at house numbers.

This week during 'Outdoor Learning' we looked at more signs of spring, especially trees. We talked about the parts of a tree, named them and used chalk and crayons to make bark rubbings.

The children were asked the question... What would you take to space?

Here are some of their responses...
