Reception- Week beginning 18th November

Date: 18th Nov 2024 @ 6:09pm

This half term our topic is 'Let's Celebrate'. This topic looks at lots of different festivals that we celecrate from Bonfire night to Diwali. The children love learning about different cultures and traditions and it flows nicely into our Christmas celebrations. The children learn historical facts when we look at the Houses of Parliment and King James. During Diwali we look at  where and how Hindu's celebrate the festival around the world, focusing on countries and looking at maps. We make links to festivals that we celebrate in this country and talk about similarities and differences. Our grand finale is a Christmas play performed by the children and this year it is called 'Ready Steady Elves'. This is a chance for the children to learn and perform songs, dances and choral speaking. They will be encouraged to act, perform and play percussion instruments throughout the play. We are looking forward to you joining us for this occasion.

You could help at home by talking about how you celebrate Bonfire night, what you do for Remembrance day and how you prepare to celebrate Christmas.

In mathematics we will be learning to count and order numbers to 10. We will be sorting and classifying shapes and making new shapes by combining shapes that we already know.

You could help at home by talking about shapes that you see around your home. You could also count objects aroiund your home and start to add 1 more and 1 less.
