Reception- Week beginning 17th April
Date: 30th Mar 2023 @ 3:57pm
Fee Fi Fo Fum!
We are beginning our new topic called 'Once Upon a Time'. We are starting with Jack and the Beanstalk. It is a story that all children are familiar with so we will be making story maps and listening to different versions of this traditional tale and talking about similarities and differences. We will be encouraging the children to use story language in their own retelling of this story and looking for the events to be ordered, identifying what happens at the beginning, in the middle and end.
You could read different traditional tales and fairy stories to your child so that they become familiar with story language and some of the good and bad characters that appear in many of these tales.
We will be encouraging the children to build their own beanstalks using junk modelling materials and paper. We will be using construction materials to build castles and planting seeds and looking at what plants need to grow.
The children have been investigating soil and seeds. We have started to talk about what plants need in order to grow.
In mathematics we will be looking at complex patterns. Patterns on clothes, in the environment, word patterns and musical patterns. We will be encouraging the children to identify, repeat and continue patterns.Outdoors we will be using loose parts to make more complex patterns using spirals. Zig zags, and any other shapes that we notice and find.
You could look for patterns on your clothes, furnishings and around your home.
We loved retelling the story of 'Jack and the Beanstalk' using the puppets.
Using our investigation area we planted seeds and bulbs. We loved getting dirty exploring all the different shapes and sizes of the bulbs. Some have even started growing! We are definitely green-fingered!
