Reception- Week beginning 15th May

Date: 11th May 2023 @ 4:21pm

This week we begin a week topic on life cycles. We will be looking at the life cycles of animals and plants. In Literacy we will be ordering and writing captions for describe what is happening at different stages. We will be discussing how plants and animals change as they grow. This topic will cover lots of 'Understanding of the World' objectives and statements. We like the children to question why and how things happen and this topic should provide thyem with many opportunities. We may even have some new additions to the classrooms that should encourage lots of discussion and communication.

You could talk about our own lifecycle and look at baby photographs and compare how the children have changed. Please bring a baby photo into class with your child's name on the back and we will see if the children recognise who it is. It will also provide us with a stimulus to discuss how we grow.

In mathematics we are revisiting subtraction and looking at how the quantity in a group can be changed by taking some away. We will be using concrete objects and also writing down our own calculations.

You could sing subtraction counting songs at home.
