Reception-Week beginning 13th January
Date: 15th Jan 2025 @ 2:21pm
Happy New Year!
Welcome back to school.
We are very excited about our new topic and provision as it is one that always captures the imagination of the children and they learn so much about the seaons, weather, animals and different parts of the world. 'As The World Is Sleeping' looks at animals that are nocturnal and those that hibernate. We also take a journey to look at the Arctic and Antarctic and all the animals that survive ion the colder climates. The children learn to use lots of new vocabulary, scientific facts and mapping skills.
The provision in the classrooms allows the children to investigate and be independent in their learning. It inspires the children to take a closer look at what is around them. We challenge them to investgate floating and sinking, use clay to make models, make bird feeders with different ingredients, use junk modelling materials to build dens and habitats and retell stories using puppets and masks.
You could help at home by reading stories about animals and retelling well known stories like 'Owl Babies'.
In mathematics we are learning all about the numbers up to 5 and quickly subitising patterns. We are using mathematical language to explain how we can combine groups to make 5.
You could help at home by singing songs about 5 like '5 liitle duck' and '5 in the bed'.
