Reception-Week beginning 11th March

5 4 3 2 1 BLAST OFF! This week we are blasting off on our new theme called 'To Infinity and Beyond'. We will be reading Aliens Love Underpants which is a humerous book. The children will be retelling the story, designing an alien and writing about what it looks like. They will be making nodels of aliens using junk modelling materials, painting and designing their own underpants and making rockets and space ships. We will be encouraging lots of opportunities to develop language skills both indoors and outdoors. 

You could talk to your child about any films or books that they have read or watched about aliens and space. You could talk about how the aliens are fictional characters. Maybe you could design your own alien together.

In mathematics we are continuing to work with the numbers 9 and 10. We are also looking at how we combine 2 groups to make a total. We are using mathematical language like plus and equals and beginning to show how we can represent it in a number sentence with + and = signs.

You could get 2 small groups of items in your home and put them together and ask how many?
