Reception-Week beginning 10th February

Date: 10th Feb 2025 @ 4:59pm

This week we are continuing to learn about polar animals and regions. We are learning how animals adapt and survive in different climates, how they find food and how they feed their young. Our provision enables the children to investigate and explore waterproofing materials, how ice changes over time and how shapes fit together to build igloos. We are really encouraging the children to question their thinking and talk through their ideas with others to develop better language and communication skills.

You could help at home by looking at what materials their clothes, coats and sheos are made from and how they repel and absorb water.

In mathematics we are looking at length and using the language long and short. We have read and watched 'Superworm' by Julia Donaldson and looked at how length helped in the story. We have encouraged the children to use everyday objects and sort them into groups of long and short.

You could help at home by looking at objects around your home and sorting them according to length.

In Literacy we are reading non-fiction books and ebooks. We are learning about how they are different to fiction books, particularly the contects and index pages. We have looked at the layout, using language associated with these books like headings, pictures, maps and photographs.
