This week we wil introduce another traditional tale to the children - The Magic Porridge Pot. We will talk about the front cover of the book and make predictions about what might happen in the story. We will also look at the different characters in the story.

At home - Can you talk about the story The Magic Porridge Pot? Can you remember what happens in the story?

We mixed and stirred our porridge outside when we set up our mud kitchen. The mud changed texture as we added more or less water to it.

We will strengthen our fingers and practise our fine motor skills by using salt dough to make our own thumb pot porridge pots.

In maths, we are continuing to focus on numbers within 5, focusing particularly on the number 2. We will recognise quantities of 2 both in our environment and in pictures and we will put 2 on the 5 frame, noticing how many spaces are filled and how many remain empty. We will also match the numeral 2 to the correct quantity. 

At home - Can you spot any numerals around you?

Our rhyme of the week is 5 Little Speckled Frogs. This is one of our favourites in Nursery and the children have great fun playing it in our outdoor area as they balance on the logs.

After reading The Magic Porridge Pot, we made up our own magic spells. During our outdoor learning session, we collected sticks and added leaves and grass to create our own magic wands. Once they were finished, we thought of some magic words that we could use in our spells.
